Wangdue Valley

One of the largest dzongkhags in the country is Wangdue Phodrang covering 4,308 sq km. The place has extremely varied climatic conditions and most of the district falls under environmentally protected areas. The protected areas include:

  • Wangchuck Centennial Park
  • Jigme Dorji National Park
  • Jigme Singye Wangchuk National Park

The dzongkhag is the home to red pandas, tigers, leopards and birds like Spotted Eagles and many more.

Gangtey and Phobjikha Valley in the district is one of the distinctive beauties of the country. With a flat wide terrain, the valley is the habitat of rare and endangered Black Necked Cranes. Also the Black Necked Crane Festival is held here everywhere.
